KAS is pleased to announce issuance of US Patent No. 9,120,686 entitled WASTEWATER TREATMENT METHODS, granted on September 1, 2015. The invention utilizes microbial consortia to treat wastewater, producing a final effluent that is remarkably clean, with low levels of hazardous metal containing substances, unwanted nutrient values (N, P S) and suspended solids. Advantageously, the wastewater treatment method reduces the use of chemical compounds and energy inputs in the treatment process. It is deployed with a minimal footprint and utilizes existing infrastructure. Further, valuable biomass can be produced from the wastewater. It is designed to help capture greenhouse gases, and to operate all year round in any number of industrial or municipal sites.
The patent family will include applications described in the Oct. 2, 2014 publication of WO2014/160350 for recovery of strategic metals from industrial operations or geofluids.
This technology is available for licensing. Potential licensees would be oil and gas industry for fracking pits and oil refineries, biorefineries, livestock operations, mining operations and geothermal plants.
